Back in September I did a post on my dining room inspiration. You can read that post here. This is one of the pictures that I used, and I just love it! I believe it’s from a past issue of Southern Living. I really liked the white walls mixed with the colorful fabrics.

So, this is what our dining room looked like right after we moved in. I couldn’t find any from right before the re-do. Even though this room has great big windows, we don’t get a lot of sun on this side of the house. It felt a little small in here.

These pictures really are probably from the day after we moved in! I knew I wanted to keep the light fixture, but other than that I needed a change with the wallpaper and curtains. You can’t really tell in the pictures, but the trim paint color was a dark cream. The curtains came down, and we put up our teal, dupioni Pottery Barn panels that we used in the old house. They actually matched the wallpaper, so that’s how we’ve been for the first year in our house.

Number one was to get the wallpaper down. I started that project last Memorial Day weekend. Three of the walls are plaster, so it actually came down pretty easy. Then we had the room painted. This is below. The paint color is Ben Moore’s Acadia White color matched in Sherwin Williams low VOC paint.

It brightened up the room so much!

And now here we are pretty much finished! These beautiful silk drapes came with the house. They were in our family room over the french doors, and one faux window so the rods fit perfectly! The only issue was the length. This part of the house is older, and has taller ceilings. I thought on this for a LONG time, and discussed with my sewing lady. Finally, we came up with this.

Recover the green buttons at the pinch pleats in aqua silk, then add an aqua band to add length. Since we had an extra set of panels, we had the fabric to use.I am so happy with how they turned out. These drapes are so great, and have about 3 or 4 layers of lining and flannel, so they are super thick and full. I wanted them to slightly puddle on the floor.

We still have our hutch and table from the old house. I like how the furniture makes the room a little less formal. I have always loved this style of French chair, but never wanted to pay a fortune. Back in the fall I found them for a great price at various Marshall’s and TJ Maxx. You might notice the two end chairs are in a lighter linen. My plan is to use them awhile, let them get dirty, then recover in something fab!

Here are a few pictures I have saved on Pinterest.

I have given thought to painting the chairs aqua. Also, like the idea of a different fabric on the backs of the chairs.

I like something small and graphic like this Quadrille fabric. Their designs come in tons of colors, so I would choose something that compliments the curtains.

Definitely not these colors, but could also do a monogram maybe on the backs of the two end chairs.

Okay, back to the room.

I found this cute guy, and knew immediately that he would be PERFECT with the curtains. He is a Roseate Spoonbill, and we refer to him as “Spoony.” It was quite a feat getting him home from Atlanta. I didn’t want to put it in the back of the truck, so he rode in the back seat. That meant Charles, Christine, and I all rode up front together. It was cozy!!

I had really planned on finding a large abstract canvas with bright colors, but Spoony was just too perfect to pass up. The size, color, frame, all of it. And he really fits into my theme/love of all things coastal. One day I will live at the beach!!

Here’s a close up of the buttons. They were green, but I couldn’t find a green silk to match, so we went aqua. I am glad we did. I like pulling that color out, it works with the rods.

Charles recently hung the smaller panels, so I still need to steam. Savannah likes the windows because they are low enough for her.

Now my Vietri Incanto finally matches my dining room! It didn’t look so hot with the creamy trim and wallpaper.

Close up of the chair.

I still need to get some type of permanent centerpiece for the table. Above I mentioned that we are pretty much finished because I still need some art on the wall opposite the double window, and maybe to the right of the fireplace. I am thinking something botanical.

That’s it! Hope you like our big transformation. This really is the biggest project we have done to the house, and I couldn’t be happier! Now we just need to use this room more! If you follow the blog regularly, then you know I love aqua. I am liking how this room blends with the rest of the house, but has the addition of the coral/pink color from the curtains! We are also slowly painting most of the interior white.

PS-the oil painting is to the trade, so if you are interested in finding something similar let me know! They have a great selection of Herons. Even though my chairs were a one time find, I can also order similar styles from my vendors too!

I don’t usually post pictures of our kitchen. We have made so much progress on the house, but the kitchen still has old wallpaper. Anyway, this bare wall has been screaming for something. I had a small ceiling tin/chalkboard for awhile.

Then at Christmas time, we hung all of the Christmas cards we received. That was fun having the wall covered.

I have debated on painting the entire wall with chalkboard paint, but I really need a place to pin things as opposed to writing. One day I would like a larger cork board, maybe the size of the wall from the chair rail up. For now, this is what we have.

I already had all materials on hand. I staple gunned burlap over an old cork board. I love brass nail heads like the ones I used on another board below that’s for sale in my booth at the Antique Griffin, but I only had these silver ones. They work since we have stainless appliances in the kitchen. Anyway, it’s an easy, quick project!

Notice all of the sonogram pics on the wall? We have more, really enough to wallpaper the wall!

If you follow me on Facebook then you’ve already seen these. I have a new booth at the newly opened Shop@11th in Griffin. The exciting and fun thing is I am sharing the booth with my good friend, Christine. She is starting her own booth biz too! We will be getting our shop names up soon in the space, but this is a peek into Chestnut Lane & Lofton Home! [Isn't Lofton Home such a great name?] Christine’s tags and business cards are great too. Anyway, we just got some new things in. Sorry for the fuzzy iPhone picture. Isn’t her goat fab???

You might notice the jewelry on the aqua chest. I moved the initial bracelets to this booth. There are still a few of the other gold bracelets at the Antique Griffin booth as well.

She’s mixed in some traditional & abstract artwork.

The little cows have already sold, but more will be coming to the booth this week!

I think I’m most excited about this line Christine has decided to carry. These owl plates would look great on the wall, but better yet, they are dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe, so great for eating!! The dining table is also for sale.

One the left you can barely see the burlap ribbon that’s also new! Stop by if you are out and about. Shop@11th is open Thursday-Sunday. It’s located on 11th street off of Taylor St/Hwy 16 in Griffin. Kay has recently had the storefront painted, new sign to come!

In baby news, Charlotte weighs 6.4 pounds now!!! 35 weeks and counting…

As of now the nursery is very close to being finished, but I am going to start from the beginning. Here’s an idea of what we started with. This is one of our upstairs bedrooms. We have now been in this house a little over a year, but had not touched the upstairs until this point. This room had a darker beige/gold wall color. It also had cream carpet, and a small light fixture. I had the ceiling painted Sherwin Williams “Window Pane.” I saw this color on the ceilings in the Southern Living Idea House in Senoia last year. It is a nice light blue/green color. We then painted the walls Ben Moore “Acadia White.” I had it color matched in a low VOC Sherwin Williams paint. We also primed all of the old oil trim, so we could paint back over with a low VOC paint as well. I forget the trim color, just a bright white. All of this alone really brightened up the room! Next we ripped up the carpet. Charles spent a long time cleaning/scrubbing the old hardwood floors. They were in decent condition, so we chose not to have them sanded since we were planning on a large rug. Our entire downstairs either has seagrass or jute rugs, so I knew I wanted something a little different and soft for Charlotte. After floors, came the light. We had a white ceiling fan installed, and updated some old wiring. I know ceiling fans are not the cutest thing in the world, but we live in Georgia, and it gets hot in the summer. I personally like having ceiling fans in bedrooms. Also, I read that having a fan in a baby’s room will help reduce the risk of SIDS.

I really wanted a textured carpet, but the price was quite prohibitive. We also painted and removed carpet in the connecting guest room. So, in buying two rugs, I needed affordable. We had carpet remnants bound from Cleveland carpet in north Griffin. They have a great selection. We went with a creamy, short shag type carpet, so it’s really soft. Not the most exciting thing, but after a few years of baby and kid messes, we won’t feel bad throwing out.

For her closet, I wanted to make it cute and organized. It isn’t large, so when you open the door, you see the entire thing. This picture I found online was a great start. It is very similar to the nursery closet. I loved this wallpaper, but really didn’t want to spend the time or money on wallpapering the back wall. [Photo on my "A Nursery Plan" Pinterest board]

After tons of online searching for cheaper options, I found some vinyl flowers on Etsy. The price was right, and I knew I could get them up on my own, and fast.

I think these gave the closet a similar look to the inspiration pic. The flowers can be found here. There are many colors to choose from, I went with the light tan. [Found the green velvet hangers at Marshalls]

One of the furniture lines that I sell has a ton of gliders. I went with the Camryn swivel, glider, rocker. It has a tall back which will be good for all of those late night feedings.

I ordered it slipcovered in a natural matelasse/quilted fabric. And, the slipcover is washable!

You know I had some inspiration for the glider! Erika, from Urban Grace, has a similar looking version from Lee. Mine was a little more affordable! I liked the square arm since it is a little more contemporary in the mix of girly, nursery stuff.

One last thing. Remember my nursery inspiration post with all of the bookcases? Well, I found the perfect one at Scott Antique Market a few months back!!

Stay tuned….

The chevron pattern is nothing new in design and fashion, but I still love it. Ordering my new chevron business cards from an Etsy seller opened my eyes to a huge world of chevron! Type in “chevron” on Etsy and see what you get.

Here are a few things I have saved to my Etsy favorites.

These bags from MadebyNanna are fabulous!! Who would have thought to mix clean and crisp chevron with burlap!

Come to think of it, this bag is a little like this room from Atlanta Homes Mag that I posted recently.

Here’s one more that I LOVE by MadebyNanna. I wish she made a style that would work for a diaper bag. Nanna, if you are reading this, I need a wider top to the bag! She has many more colors and options.

I don’t even know how I ran across these, but how about some reusable sandwich bags! These are from Three Little Moms.

Here’s another option from Celeste Blake Designs. At $7.50 each, these bags would be great for kids’ snacks! Again, many more colors.

One of the design blogs I read posted about poufs the other day. I checked them out on Etsy to see what they had. Here’s a chevron option for ya from Aleta Fae.

Now on to some paper goods. There are tons of paper goody bags in lots of colors. These below are from The Party Fairy.

Super cute calling cards from Pixel Impress. I am thinking about getting some of these for Charlotte’s gift cards.

These chic calling cards are from Flair Designery. They are the ones who did my business cards, and I definitely recommend them!

Need some return address labels? These are small but great. From Sarah Luke Creative.

One more thing from Flair Designery. Round address labels.

One great thing about Etsy is that you can contact the sellers directly with questions. They usually respond pretty quickly. If a seller isn’t available, they put “on vacation” on their listings.

Happy Friday the 13th!
